Choosing a cheap hotel in Paris doesn’t mean you’ll end up staying in a seedy little room with no amenities.  Some of the cheapest hotels in Paris adhere to regular hotel standards, and while you can’t expect a five star experience, you will surely experience French hospitality at its best. Here are 5 hotels in Paris you can book for under $50 a night for the traveler who wants to experience Paris and all it has to offer without breaking the bank. Most of these are one and two star hotels that have received rave reviews from hundreds of travelers from around the world.

The Luna Park Hotel, located on Rue Jacquard in the 11th arrondissement, is a one star hotel within walking distance of Place de la Bastille.  If you’re interested in checking out Paris nightlife, this hotel is worth considering because of its proximity to the Canal Saint-Martin and rue Oberkampf.  Depending on pricing and availability you may need to share a bathroom, but some of the hotel’s 36 rooms do have private bathrooms.  Wifi is available at this hotel, and each room is thoughtfully outfitted with a TV and telephone.  For less than $30 a night per person, you can’t go wrong with 24 hour reception, luggage storage, a safe and a TV lounge for socialising with other guests.  When you’re ready for some sightseeing, you can visit the Pere Lachaise cemetery located 20 minutes from the hotel, where greats such as Oscar Wilde and Jim Morrison are buried.  A short walk away is the metro at Place de la Republique that will take you to the Gare du Nord, the Louvre, Invalides and the Eiffel Tower all in under 20 minutes.

For a more personal experience, book one of the 32 rooms offered for around $30 per night at Grand Hotel Voltaire, a family run establishment located in the Bastille district of Paris.  There’s plenty to do within walking distance of this 2-star hotel, such as visiting the Place de la Bastille, Rue Oberkampf and Place de la Republique.  You can treat yourself to a night of music at the opera house at Place de la Bastille, visit some bars and restaurants on Rue Oberkampf, and wander the streets of the Marais district, which is full of historic sights.  Mealtimes may be problematic but only because you may have a hard time choosing from the many cafes in the areas around this 32 room hotel.  If you’re heading to Paris with a group, you can ask about the double and twin rooms with shared bathroom facilities on the top floor of this hotel, but keep in mind that there’s no lift so you’ll have to take the stairs.  The reception desk staff is ready to assist you 24 hours a day, and you can spend time getting to know other guests in the shared TV lounge.  Each room is also furnished with a TV and telephone, and you can access free WiFi from your room and all public areas of the hotel.

If you’re traveling with a small group of friends or family members, Residence Family Hotel is a superb choice for accommodation, at around $40 a night.  Each of the hotel’s 21 studios can house up to 3 guests, and includes a kitchenette for even more savings on meals.  Equipped with a flat screen television, each soundproofed room has an en suite bathroom, and come in two options, regular and superior.  The superior room is furnished and decorated like the regular suites, but are slightly larger and suitable for 3 adults.  Ideal for travelers interested in shopping, Residence Family Hotel is located near the Rue du Commerce which features many fashion boutiques, and you can enjoy easy access to the Rue de Grenelle open air market.  The Eiffel Tower and Champs de Mars tourist attractions are a short walk away, but if you’d like to head to other famous places of attraction in Paris, the metro and public transportation are readily available nearby.

The most expensive hotel on our list is still a steal of a deal.  At around $50 per night per person, Hotel de l’Alma is a 3 star hotel in an amazing location for the price.  Located right next to the Eiffel Tower, you’ll experience Paris in style when you stay at one of the 31 rooms fully outfitted with a television, heating, private safe, and free Wifi.  Depending on your needs, you can choose one of their single, double or twin rooms, each with its own en suite bathroom. Tours of the city are easily arranged from the Hotel de l’Alma, conveniently situated in the 7th arrondissement of Paris.  You can go on a boat tour of the River Seine, which is a short distance away, or go on foot to the nearby L’Ecole Militaire where the remains of Napoleon Bonaparte are housed.  Making reservations is easy using the direct dial telephone in your room, and you can also enjoy breakfast at this hotel for a fee.  Other perks at Hotel de L’Alma include a cafe and bar, free WiFi in the hotel’s common areas, luggage storage, 24 hour reception and easy access to public parking.
